We Did The Puyallup
I am a sucker for guilt. My friend at work told me how Charlie reallllllly needed to go to the fair and see all those animals. My response: everything at the fair has been the same for years. All those old booths under the grandstand are the same, scones are in the same place, rides never move, the animals stink and are the same, and the food isn't that great. I felt guilty though. She gave me two free tickets on the day, and because I had the day off and the kids still had their free school tickets we decided to go. We parked for free, got in for free, and spent money only on food. We wondered around and found some pretty cool stuff that we never new existed. The music tent, which was full of tons of instruments from around the world. They allowed the kids to play whatever they wanted....it was awesome and probably one of the highlights of the night (even though the workers were putting away the instruments and packing up). We visited the Great Outdoors visit, and learned about watersheds, animal tracking, and got a coloring book for Charlie. We went in the agriculture area, and picked our favorite fruit, and jam display. We saw a ZaDonk (donkey/Zebra), Zabu, and some really hungry baby piggies. Mama pig was so interested in eating her slop that she didn't even notice/care that she was stepping on one of her piglets. He made an awful noise, and still she kept eating. The worker had to come over and help the piglet. Can't believe she hurt her own baby, but then about 30 minutes later I turned around and hurt my own son's feelings. I was trying to take a picture of Ethan and Valerie in front of a carrot measurement stick and Ethan wouldn't make eye contact with my camera! I ended up getting the picture, but told him later that he looked like a retard in it. I saw his face go from happy to red, sad, and upset (near tears). I immediately understood what I had done and apologized. My poor baby. We watched a part of two interesting acrobatic shows, and enjoyed walking and looking at all the lights and excitement of the fair. We ended our fair trip with the kids and I riding the big slide together. We are glad we went! Charlie thanked us several times for taking her.
