Just Me!!

  The sunshine felt amazing. Mark suggested I work outside a little today and since I had already thought about it I decided to give it a whirl. It took a lot of positive talk and about 2.25 hours of hard work. I weeded, pruned, and prepped my beds for spring. The yard waste bucket was completely empty, and now look at it! I feel like I accomplished something today. These poor weeds, roots, and old vegetables from last year needed to be cleaned up. It was a Great day. Starting to feel like myself again. I haven't even had to refill my RX from Dr Taggart. I also got some help from my brother in law. His funeral program is still on my fridge and today I stopped and read the scripture on the front of it. Psalm 23. Yep, Jesus promises to be with me. WHY should I fear! He is in the business of restoring souls...and mines in need!     

              I am privileged to work with a host of amazing landscapers, gardeners, and plant happy folks! I learn new techniques year after year and try new ideas each year. My favorite idea this year was planting with toilet paper. I put the seeds spaced out onto the toilet paper, folded it in thirds, gave it a squirt of water, and then planted the toilet paper seed tape in the ground in one long piece. I am hoping it leads to some straighter rows in my garden. I also changed up my shaded raised bed and put all my lettuce over there, except for two voluntary heads of lettuce that are growing near my herb garden! Next year I hope to use wood chips in my garden...

I've always wanted to stop at one of these community gardens...but was afraid that I would be yelled at for being in the garden. It turns out that I didn't get yelled out for being in the garden, but welcomed! I was told to enjoy and look around all I want. I talked to one of the garden plot owners for about 15 minutes on the process of community gardening. It fascinates me, plus I love seeing the garden as a whole. I love the weeds, dead vegetables, the growth of new ones, the colors and intensity of each color in the veggies, and then the amazing flowers (they love being together, veg-flowers that is) that live and breathe the same air. So peaceful! The cute garden benches, the plot signs, and Proctors' garden library inspires me. My heart is screaming "I want to belong. I want to have a little plot that others can admire." For me, it isn't about getting fruits or vegetables from a garden, it's about watching something grow!   what are these flowers?

This weekend was crazy fun! We hiked, BBQ x 2, spent time with family, watched my flowers finally bloom, started a workout, played soccer with the kids, bought an awesome salad from the MET, listened to a podcast, googled park hikes for the kids, and listened to my daughter speak to me in Catalan.  Steps 10,999 today Better choices: small scoop of low fat ice cream, low cal breakfast sandwich from Starbucks with egg whites, salad from the MET, tofu steaks, and suggested a walk which ended in two hours of kicking the soccer ball! Regrets: missed international kissing day! We weren't feeling it;(

If you listened every time I go to check on my garden you will hear me talking to my plants! They get plenty of water, sun, and praise for growing the way that I want them too. Charlie is usually right there with me praising them or telling them to how to grow. She is my garden helper! I am very proud of my garden and am constantly looking for new plants to plant or containers to grow in! My dream is to own a garden like the one in California, Huntington Gardens. First off though I think it's time to go back to school. I want to get my Master Gardener degree. It won't make me a profit but will definitely help me learn to take care of my forever garden, when we move into our forever home! I love my small backyard but do dream of land to expand my talents with gardening. 1.What my backyard looked like without boarders. 2.The small potato plant that got transplanted to its new bed. 3.
