Dr. Seussical Day
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! You have filled my kids lives with so many rhymes over the years. Loads of laughter, and tons of snickers can be heard when I read Charlie Green Eggs and Ham. The Sleep Book is another goody from Dr. Seuss that Charlie can barely stay awake for. All that rhythmical rhyming puts her to sleep before I can read the last page, but I still do read the last page if only to amuse myself. Since my sister was out of town, Ryan had a chance to come along with us. The day started out with green eggs and sausage, aka eggs with avocado sauce and spinach chicken sausage hash. We dropped by a wonderful used bookstore, located at the corner of the Tacoma Dome. We bought a Dr. Seuss book or two, walked next door to a cake shop and ate a birthday cake sample, and then ended the day at the Hands on Museum of Tacoma. These two are the busiest kids I know. It was really hard to keep then in one spot together, but we managed. Of course some lady was trying to parent one of the kids, which made me frustrated, and more so that she was addressing the kids by their first names. Rude and freaky! I told the kids that they had five more minutes to play before our meter ran out, so we moved stations from that crazy lady. We ordered chicken teriyaki for lunch sans rice and the teriyaki sauce. Trying hard to teach the kids that Paleo is a forever thing. Charlie totally gets it, and loves talking to strangers about our weird diet. The lady in Costco today was extremely interested because we bought hot dogs, without the buns, from the deli. The question, "she doesn't like the buns?" pretty much started Charlie talking for a good 5 minutes about Paleo, to this stranger. Her and her grandson were not from "around there"...but from Bonney Lake. Older people tend to exaggerate a bit, I've noticed. I learned all about her grandson who lived in Kenya for a year, and she even discussed her disgust with her new Blue Ray, because there is NOTHING good on T.V. So tomorrow I will make sure I reinforce the no talking to strangers rule. It was actually a pleasant conversation, though. We were crazy productive today. Mark went to school, I took Val and Ethan to Kung Fu, shopped Costco, paid for Valerie's promotion outfit, bought and chose paint colors for living room, made Paleo mayonnaise and ketchup for the first time, boiled eggs, made a yummy dinner of Salmon, roasted beets, and Brussels sprouts with bacon, started my shopping/menu list for the week, and watched/slept through Hugo with my family. My cold is starting to flair up more, which won't help me paint tomorrow:( Better get rest...
