A good philosophy

My birthday mug with homemade rosemary shortbread from Glenda at work

I asked for nothing for my birthday but a few stolen days away with my husband. The kids loved the idea because they hate trying to buy gifts and this way they didn’t have to. They kids graciously let us sneak away for 2 nights after Ethan’s last soccer game in Snohomish. We left Sunday night last rotation and came back on Tuesday before the week heated up. The first night we arrived very late into Port Townsend and we already had decided to try another hotel in town because it was just as cheap as our hotel we always stay at plus it included breakfast. Win win! Well not so winning at 0300 when we listened to a rat (or several) scamming around and digging a bed in the walls of the hotel. He sounded like he was right next to us! Yuck! I called the Super and he didn’t answer so I left a message went back to bed and prayed he didn’t bite our toes. We wanted to check out the next morning but after offering us 4 different rooms we finally said “yes” to a room in the new part of the hotel that came with a King bed, a huge jucuzzi tub, and a view of the water. We had a great soak, complete with wine, bread from a local bread artisan shop, oils that I brought from home and a couple of new ones from the oil shop in town, and the smoked salmon from Christmas. It was a perfectly awesome two days away. We only ate out once at the Old Mill House and had one of the best things I’ve ever experienced, Korean Bulgogi Beef Tacos with Kimchi and pickled onions. It was to die for!! I found a Pinterest recipe online and remade them at home this week. They were good but not as good as theirs. I will have to tweet the recipe a bit next time. It was a wonderful birthday that made me feel so special, loved, and extremely at peace with being 46. Thank you Mark....Valerie...Ethan...and Charlie😘
