Graduation 👩‍🎓

Image
Valerie decided at the last minute to walk in her graduation. Apparently she felt a twinge of  loyalty to Pierce because she got a free cap and gown and didn’t want them to be disappointed if she didn’t show up. Due to all the construction and blocked traffic we barely made it on time. She at least decided she was going to be at the front of the line so lucky for us she was literally the 2nd person to receiver her Associates in Arts Degree!  She did amazing since she had to complete her Chemistry final earlier that morning. She past the class with flying colors. She found out around 1130 that she was good to walk;)! Congratulations Valerie on a job well done. She did it without any loans as well! As I looked out onto the sea of caps and gowns I was thinking that these kids just in that room probably represented a large number of student loans. College costs have skyrocketed and it is literally rediculous for this generation. She received no student loans and paid nearly $1600 ...

Apart from the amazing garden boxes, free dirt, free seeds, community commraderie, free gardening advice, I get to be part of an award winning team. We were presented with the award for 2018 Community Food Project of the Year in March 2019. Pierce County Conservation District even had a ceremony complete with a wonderfully delicious meal and desserts! Last year I grew Turnips (only had one or two) and Kale. I switched my bed to a larger one this year and planted in early May. I planted Zinnia’s, cilantro, radishes, and turnips. I have harvested 1/3 of my turnips, all my radishes, and two good handfuls of cilantro from my garden box so far. The Zinnias are working hard to flower but we’re slightly overshadowed by the turnip leaves. ...

25 Years Strong

Salmon Apple and Crab for the win! Happy National Sushi Day...also our 25th Wedding Anniversary Geocaching in Kalama My new favorite place 25 years ago...we thought this was love but now we know that what we feel now is stronger, more intense, fulfilling, connected, and most certainly LOVE.  We hadn’t planned to do anything. Our gift to each other was our deck furniture that we both decided was enough. Yet as the day got closer, we both wanted to get away together. We wanted a chance to stop, reflect, and relax. We chose The Chrystal Ballroom in Portland for a quick overnighter. Sushi, soaking in the salt water pool, browsing Powell’s, and Geocaching made the overnight trip relaxing, rejuvenating, and enjoyable. I look forward to being his for the next 25 years!

Graduated Senior

It official, he’s graduated. Congratulations Ethan on a job well done! He is off and running in all other areas too. He has a job, is driving his own car, and made it through his graduation party with flying colors. He was disappointed by the turn out which I totally get. I was the middle child and it seemed the same way for me. Val’s turnout was great. She probably had at least 30 people so I think he expected the same. He kept asking where’s so and so....my love that day couldn’t shield him from the disappointment. But enough about that. I am sooo proud of him. His final year was for the most part smooth sailing. He completed his work on time, got great grades, and graduated with honors. He is signed up for TCC in the fall and will be planning New Student orientation soon. His week is pretty busy since Chick Fil A’s orientation is Monday through Thursday 8-4p. Although it will be nice to have quiet days for the next three days. I am in desperate need of quietness. Our lives have been...
