Harvest Day

I love belonging to the Blueberry Park Garden. Apart from the amazing garden boxes, free dirt, free seeds, community commraderie, free gardening advice, I get to be part of an award winning team. We were presented with the award for 2018 Community Food Project of the Year in March 2019. Pierce County Conservation District even had a ceremony complete with a wonderfully delicious meal and desserts!

Last year I grew Turnips (only had one or two) and Kale. I switched my bed to a larger one this year and planted in early May. I planted Zinnia’s, cilantro, radishes, and turnips. I have harvested 1/3 of my turnips, all my radishes, and two good handfuls of cilantro from my garden box so far. The Zinnias are working hard to flower but we’re slightly overshadowed by the turnip leaves. Hopefully I can thin them and then maybe they will produce some flowers to make the bed full of color. I’ve replanted bok choy (where the radishes were) and plan to replaced the turnips with more turnips or potatoes! I am beyond impressed with the growing season thus far.
