Whole30 Complete
I have waited to post anything on my blog related to Whole30 which included thoughts and feelings to the very end for the reason that I wasn't so sure my family, or I would make it. We have, and we did. Many emotions have been displayed throughout the course of the 30, but never regret on my part. I did go through detox, and lethargy, and some nasty poo, but the worst was experienced in the first week. The first week Mark and I spent on the couch in our jam-jams sleeping and watching movies. Maybe the hardest day was my birthday, when I fussed about how i couldn't have cake. mark fixed that for me and made the best tasting PALEO cake. We have been through diet changes before Iil lady came about, the year of our lives that we spent as vegetarians. Charlie has presented some problems. People at work thought I was cruel, even doctors, for depriving my 4 year old of milk and milk based products. So much so, that I allowed Greek yogurt, only one a day to be included back into her diet. Peer pressures a bitch! She came around to our way of thinking after about a week. She knows exactly what she can eat, and boy does she ever eat. After this post I will list a load of things I learned from our diet. Anyways, at first I spent nearly every moment in the kitchen. Now it is habit and I try to make two things at once so that I am covered for awhile. The kids are constantly snacking, but only on good food (all others were purged prior-and given to my brother). The children have come to love cauliflower rice, quiche, eggs, coconut milk, homemade Balsamic dressing, and of course Larabars. Mark is not so into staying Whole30, but is definitely ready to start and stay on a Paleo lifestyle.
My challenge now is completing a workout every day for the next thirty. Starting March 5th we dive back into the Whole30 lifestyle. The lifestyle is allowing me to wean my cravings and look to food as sustance instead of reward. It is still extremely hard to view a date with Mark without going to dinner! I crave dates surrounded by food. We started that way. Olive Garden breadstick with yummy salad...we would even grab it to go and eat it on our trips to the Oregon beaches.
I learned:
Kids need a lot of food when eating healthy
Kids are easily adaptable to change
Kids have tons of high and lows when sugar is involved
Kids are mellow and themselves when you take the sugar and gluten from their diet
ADHD can be cured with diet...amphetamine free for 30 days!
Nearly everyday our kids were offered candy as a REWARD at school
Eating out doesn't have to be scary...who doesn't want a nice steak dinner?
What remains gone:
Bread
Diet Coke
Dairy, except for occasional cream for our coffee and my plans to make homemade Greek yogurt!
What I've gained:
A sense of pride for feeding my kids things that will help them live longer, be more productive, and increase a sense of happiness.
Weight loss of 10 lbs
Dropped two pants sizes
Normal digestion
Feeling of decreased inflammation and swelling of my belly
No headaches for a month (had one, but resolved without medication)
A joy of cooking
Disgust when I see other people stock up on processed food that contains cancer causing agents
A change in how I reward myself
Confidence
Knowing I can do this for the rest of my life
