Dr. Who and my Whovians

January 23rd marked the 50th Anniversary of Dr. Who! The kids have recently gotten into all things Who so it was only fitting to take them to the celebration at the EMP. Of course since the event was FREE for members it made it even more attractive. I haven't watched a single epsidode--except for the one I slept through five hours earlier--so I had no idea what to expect. Fandoms interest me though so I knew it would be fun(currently a Buffy and Breaking bad fan). I did offer not to go just in case I would put a damper on things. I'm glad I went! The event reminded me of Mark's literary conferences. We were able to listen to two segments (2 hours total); one was a Skype session with the author of "Chicks Dig Time Lords"; and the second session included 6 students from UW who each presented their 5 minute talks on Dr Who theories and observations. After those sessions we took pictures with the Dalik, watched a costume contest, and voted for our favorite Doctor. There has been 11 doctors since it originally aired on November 23, 1963. Valerie is particularly found of the 10th Dr., who was played by David Tennant. She is constantly drawing pictures of him on every scrap of paper she can find (what happened to drawing dragons?). Fans, like Valerie and Ethan, have kept this show going over the years and now the 12th doctor is set to be revealed soon.

We enjoyed a lite snack at two food carts of Seattle while we were eventing. I love food carts! Ethan and I had a "Sonic Cheese Driver (aka grilled cheese)" and Mark and Val had fries from the Nosh truck. Val wanted to try Bone Marrow and possibly rabbit but she settled for a more economical choice of fries. It was a great night. Thanks grandpa and grandma for offering to keep Charlie. She would've been bored to tears during the talks.

He explores the universe in his TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space), a sentient time-travelling space ship (aka blue police box). The EMP made a mock up of one and offered free pictures to all travelers.

Mark's artistic comic on our adventures Saturday night!!!

Google jumped in on the fun and created a Dr Who game for the 50th Celebration. Val, Charlie and I spent 50 minutes on Saturday saving the world!!!
