Masquerading at the Capital

Getting ready to Dance the night away

Drinks in the Secretary of State Office

We were asked to the ball by my sister on Friday afternoon and somehow we got ourselves together enough to look amazing for the Masquerade Ball at the State Capital. It was a fundraiser for the Combined Food Drive sponsored and hosted by the Secretary of States Office. Kim Wyman was a gracious host and even opened her office to serve the community a variety of wine, beer, and cider! Valerie and I had the priveledge to introduce ourselves to the Secretary of State and to get a photo with her. She has a lot on her plate right now but in the midst of running the campaign she looked amazing and didn't seem to be giving into the stress of politics.

Everyone enjoyed themselves. Charlie and Lanie literally didn't leave the dance floor all night. Valerie left us and spent a good amount of time checking out all the nooks and crannies of the Capital. The food was amazing but I didn't get much time to taste it all. I did have a tuna tar tar sesame cone, a fancy BLT, and a pan seared scallop over potato topped with caviar. The food was incredible and I'm finding myself craving the tar tar right now!

The best thing apart from meeting Mrs Wyman, being at the Capital, and dancing with Politicians was observing all the intricate costumes. We saw everything from beautiful ball gowns-that I'm sure cost more than all our outfits put together-to men dressed up as Spider-Man and Thor.

I missed out on dancing to my favorite Def Leppard song, but that's okay since my dance partner wasn't with me. Shannon mentioned that Mike would've loved going to this function. I told her that Maybe he was sitting beside us all along! Next year I would love to come again, AND bring MY masked man. It's also for a good cause. Maybe next year I will get a chance to go to the fortune teller, the casino, dance with my man, eat more hors d'oeuvre, and bid on a piece of art!!! Until then I will box up my MASK until next years ball.
