Food 52 Weekend

When Valerie was here in January she heard me talking about the next cookbook for January’s Food 52 Cook Book group. I love seeing new recipes and of course reading their suggested cook books. She joined on the spot after I told her about the group. She joins a lot of groups though (even ones about being a ant 🐜). I sent her the cook book from Amazon and we agreed on our first two recipes to cook together. FaceTime made this process so much fun. I wish I had FT when we lived in Arkansas!!! Would’ve helped with the homesickness that I felt. We spent nearly two hours creating, cutting veggies, and enjoying our masterpieces together. It was a lot of fun!

Flavor Cookbook by Ottolenghi is the one we started with and might continue with for the next two months since it’s so large and full of tasty want-to-try recipes (in the middle picture Val has all her must try recipes marked with sticky notes). We picked out 6 recipes and agreed upon 2 (one from each). My mom is going to benefit from us creating these recipes since they are all vegetarian recipes. I hope she enjoyed her portion of Miso onions and Sweet Potato in Tomato and Cardamom Sauce. The Miso onions were so deliciously silky and buttery. They were packed full of umami! They were so simple to prepare but came with a longer cook time. I had higher hopes for the Sweet potatoes but I like my sweet potatoes sweet not savory. I’m not complaining though because I get to eat the rest for work lunches this week! I can’t wait to do this again....

Charlie made dinner for us....extremely grateful that I didn’t have to help a lick 👅. The prickly pizza was amazing 🤩! The best part was sitting in the hot tub while this cutie putootie made and cooked it! Next time we suggested more pickles, dill instead of bread and butter, and more dill on the top.

Tomorrow it’s back to work for all of us. Charlie has two weeks to get grades done for this semester. I also got my Moderna Vaccine this weekend so I was really glad to have four days to work through symptoms. I experienced a sore arm, a few body aches, a headache, and a stiff neck. We chose though to have a super chill weekend by buying new pajamas and binging on The Twilight Saga so the symptoms weren’t too much of a inconvenience. The CDC monitored my symptoms closely all weekend so that was reassuring.
