Nurses Week/Year of the Nurse May 6-12th and 2020
Mother’s Day May 10th
Celebration of Life For Mike Cortez May 9, 2020
I am enjoying this Year of Nursing mainly because I am with Kaiser. Kaiser values it’s employees, see us as a asset, valuable, and with high importance. I have felt nothing but love for my new employer. Even during COVID 19 I am continually amazed at its kindness and compassion for its people and its members. For nurses week, along with cake and fruit, we each received a GlassyBaby votive holder. It is beautiful and reminder me why we do this, who started this, and the reason why we want to shine our lamps so brightly. Florence Nightingale is a truly spectacular person and every time I light my candle I will think of her!
May is a hard time for my family because we get another year from seeing Mike for the last time. I am grateful for that early day in May of 2016. The day when Ryan had a soccer game and my mom and I went down to see it and to celebrate Mother’s Day. We were able to spend time with him, see the new house they were going to buy (Mike gave us the official tour) and to talk about how much he loved his new backyard. He must’ve been so tired but he never showed it!!! Every year my mom and I go down to his grave and clean it the night before the Anniversary. We want to celebrate his life and allow others visiting the gravesite to be able to celebrate him too. I miss him and sometimes feel angry at the loss my sister has to endure. He was a wonderful man.
May 10th- Mother’s Day. I had to tell Ethan that if he didn’t get me any gifts I would need 6-8 hours of weeding from him. Because of that, which I was being completely serious, he made me breakfast in bed and gave me a bag of Chick Fil A cookies! The crepes he made me were really good. We spent the day in the yard and a brief visit to my mom for brunch and installation of herRoku. I planted all the pretty flowers in the hanging baskets and transported the flower bed by the swing to the tree. Getting that spot ready for a hot tub.
