Primal Queen Quester!

Primal Quest is an expedition-length adventure race. Each race lasts up to 10 days, with winning teams completing the course in approximately 5 days. Each team is required to have four members and must be co-ed. With a prize purse of $250,000, it is one of (if not the most) lucrative of all expedition races. Each team is required to carry a GPS device allowing race organizers and spectators to track each team real-time via the Internet. The first Primal Quest was held in 2002 in Telluride, Colorado. In 2003, the race moved to Lake Tahoe and 2004 featured a course on San Juan Island, in the State of Washington. CBS broadcast highlights of the race in 2003 and 2004, the first expedition adventure race to be featured on network television. On September 21, 2004, veteran racer Nigel Aylott was killed by a falling boulder during an orienteering section. Primal Quest was not held in 2005, but will return on June 25, 2006, under new management and with a new course director. Primal Quest 2006 will be held in Utah from June 25 to July 4, 2006. In 2006, Primal Quest promises to return to the roots of expedition racing, with a longer course (in excess of 800 km) and fewer checkpoints. There will be no support crews, requiring team to carry more gear and rely on gear storage boxes for resupplies. Disciplines include mountain biking, treking, horseback riding, technical rope skills, mountaineering, kayaking and white water swimming.

My sis was thrilled to be involved this year. She has worked long and hard to complete her training and has finished the race. The competition was a gruelling mix of all of the above areas of disciplines. Team (BOAR) did a wonderful job, and we are all very proud of her and them for enduring the heat, blisters, bug bites, dehydration and pure physical exhaustion that they endured during their UTAH experience! If you want to leave a message to to congratulate them, look down my sidebar for the link. It will take you straight to TEAM BOARS page!
