Blogosphere on CSPAN

I just finished watching a small portion of the Yearlykos conference called, “Progressive Movement and the Internet” presented on CSPAN. I think I am getting too politically addicted to the question I consistently hear, “Is blogging such a good thing, and is it safe?” The blogosphere (adding word to the computers spelling bank…writers take note) is growing rapidly and sucking into it the great leaders of our times. Don’t believe me, search Technorati for famous bloggers, or catch a look at the star studded line up for the YealyKos conference in Las Vegas. Among the panelists; Ambassador Joseph Wilson former ambassador to Baghdad during first Gulf War, and married to the ousted CIA operative Valerie Plume, Dan Froomkin, Jane Hamsher, Larry C. Johnson, Christy Hardin Smith, Murray Waas, and Marcy Wheeler. The discussion was pinpointed around the Patrick Fitzgerald scandal (releasing to the public, the identity of CIA operative Valerie Plume), forcing some light into the darkest politics of today. Although I am slightly illiterate on the subject (currently taking Fitzgerald101- via computer, of course), I enjoyed with great intensity the wafting and waning of conversations that pointed towards the rising blogpower that is emerging in our society.
Ambassador Wilson writes on the Yearlykos website, “The Blogosphere represents a welcome revolution in journalism. For too long, mainstream media has had a monopoly and, as a consequence, has become fat and lazy. Competition is a good thing. Our democracy is stronger for the blogs.”
What’s wrong with strengthening our democracy? Why would you not want to strengthen our journalistic approach to the evils of our times? Is it safe, no (letting someone into your inner sanctum never is)! Is it necessary, what do you think? Go forth bloggers, emerge and change! You have the ability to make us laugh, cry, cringe, shudder, and overall to make us more knowledgeable. We are the better for it!

I promise this is the last post on my "should I blog" crusade! But seriously Mark, wasn't watching CSPAN much better than that walk you said I should take! Mind over fat? Probably should go work on the latter now!

Hooray! I'm glad to see that I've finally influenced my wife on something (since it usually works the other way around). CSPAN is the best...especially CSPAN2 and BookTV! I'm only sad that I missed listening to the panel too! My position on the blogosphere is that it is a living phenomenon which cannot be willfully destroyed. I'm glad it is here and doing well. It has a useful function. If, in the future, it dies a natural death, then it will, no doubt, be replaced by something else...hopefully something even better. For now, I'm slowly melding with the blogosphere myself, and hope only that my participation will add, in some small way, to the good others...it has already been a positive influence on me. Blog on!
